Supported lodgings for young asylum seekers

These young people often arrive without the correct travel documents so need a safe place to live while their case in investigated.

When these young people first arrive we give them accommodation and support during their assessment. Depending on their age, they will be housed with supported lodgings carers or foster carers.

Once they settle in the UK, unaccompanied young people face many challenges. These include learning English, getting used to British culture and being away from their family.

Many of these young people have travelled across several countries before entering the UK. This may leave them distressed and they may have concerns about their Home Office applications to remain in the country.

These young people are keen to settle down once they in supported lodgings placements and their behaviour is very positive. They are keen to further their education and become citizens who can contribute to society.

If you are able to offer a home and support one of these young people then please email fosteringrecruitmentduty@essex.gov.uk.
